Peregrine Smith
b. Melbourne 1951
Perregrine has been painting since age 14, and sold over 200 paintings
and numerous drawings and prints.
Since Moving to Berkeley, California in 2001, he returned to one
of his early loves, the depiction of the human face. His faces
fall into two broad groups, the first are studied examinations
of a face, often a friend or close relative, and others are free,
rapid character studies of passing anonymous people, sometimes
imagined, but usually, from reality.
Several of his recent commissions
have been to raise money for charity. "The Rosenthals"
and "Strings," (a study of Einstien with his favorite
instrument)
From 1972 to 2001, Perregrine
painted mainly hard-edged landscapes, from Hawker to deep space
and to our inner landscape often represented by doors.
Peregrines last exhibition
"Open Studios" was held at 1909 University Avenue, Berkeley
California. It was well received and attended.
