Banners are about place, time, identity and belonging. The women of Victoria have a connected shared story of suffrage that easy spans 120 years. The banners were produced to celebrate the centenary of women voting in Victoria and funded by the State of Victoria through the Department of Planning and Community Development in 2009. Ten banners were painted on calico with a rubber undercoat special paint and the boarded & backed with satin. The art work and design was drawn from the Tuthill and union banners of the late 19th century and the herstory of women voters of Victoria. For more information on where the banners went, go to: The Art of Suff- Rage
